Wardrobe Project: Harlequin socks

On our Japan trip I got these gold, silver and white harlequin socks which immediately reminded me of It’s a Small World. Later I also got a pin depicting the clock on the facade of that very ride, so I wanted to put together an outfit inspired by it.

For some reason in my mind I think of the facade as being all pastel colours, but according to Wikipedia that colour scheme was just temporary between 1996 and 2002, and I think my first visit to Disneyland was in 2007. The Disney World, Paris and Tokyo versions are more colourful, but not really the powdery pastels of that 1996-2002 Disneyland version, so I don’t know why I have that image in my head.

Anyway, that was the version I was thinking about when I put this outfit together, although now I want to make an outfit based on the original white colour scheme as well.

Dress, blouse, bag, hair bow, bow brooch and ring: All by Angelic Pretty. I got this dress from a friend who was no longer using it. It’s not really a style I think I would have ever bought for myself, it’s more cutesy and pastely than what I usually go for, but that makes it extra fun and frivolous to wear. My favourite thing about it is the silver rickrack trim.

Socks: Alice and the Pirates

Shoes: 1960s Bally shoes, I think I got these from Swedish auction site Tradera.

Clock pin and Mickey balloon hair ties: Souvenirs from Tokyo Disney Resort. The clock was originally a hair tie as well but I changed it to a pin.

Earrings: Second hand via Etsy I think.

Everything in this outfit except the socks and Disney souvenirs was acquired second hand.
