Towneley Hall
I've had too many things to do and not enough energy to think about blogging lately, but here are some photos from a recent day trip to Towneley Hall in Burnley.
We've been meaning to check it out for years and years since it's very close to us, but we didn't get around to it until now.
Checking on our little kitchen garden before getting in the car. There are currently pumpkins, potatoes, dahlias and some sorry looking broccoli plants growing there.
This photo doesn't do it justice, but that wildflower planting looked absolutely magical.
I love conifers.
This creature was on a carved ivory box. I wonder what he's supposed to be with all those legs and a shell? A very froglike hermit crab?
Beautiful chapel with very intricate carved altarpiece.
Half hidden in a cubby inside the chapel was this replica severed head of one of the Towneley ancestors who was executed in 1745 for taking part in the Jacobite Rebellion. Apparently the real head was kept here until 1902!
Absolutely amazing painting of the Tower of Babel. I would love to have this as a jigsaw puzzle! (Please ignore how badly my roots need dyeing)
Beautiful sheep paintings by Joseph Farquharson.
That's all for today, thank you for reading!

Your dahlias & coneflowers in your garden are as incredible as ever. And the wildflowers you showed at Towneley Hall were incredible. My dream wildflower field right there in that enclosed circle. I planted a lot of them this year, but they didn’t take. My friend who’s a master gardener said sometimes it takes a year… so we’ll see. I loved the boar’s head carving. Thank you for sharing the pictures. <3
Yes, they look like flies or bees! The paint looked quite new so I assumed it wasn’t original to the house, but so pretty.
Love the green walls! Are those little gold bugs?
