Japan trip part five
As a huge Disney park nerd was so excited to go to DisneySea. We had booked “early evening” tickets so we headed out to the park as soon as we’d settled into our hotel.
While it would have been amazing to stay in one of the official hotels, they are incredibly expensive as well as really hard to book, so we stayed at the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay Hotel which is just as close to the parks but not nearly as expensive.
It was definitely magical to arrive at DisneySea as it was starting to get dark. We also must have lucked out on this day because it wasn’t crowded at all, and we got to ride the ride I had been looking forward to the most, Journey to the Center of the Earth. As expected it is now among my favourite rides.
My favourite land was of course Mysterious Island, closely followed by American Waterfront.
It was extremely windy on the days we visited the Disney Parks. Not unexpected since they’re right by the ocean, but it was definitely more windy than usual. Combined with the cold winter weather my scarf and ear muffs just weren’t cutting it, so I had to buy a fluffy Mickey hat which was an absolute lifesaver for the rest of the trip. (Henrik only donned this pig hat for a photo though.)
The vintage Coney Island style area around Toy Story Mania was one of the most beautiful parts of the park.
This fountain was another of my favourite things in the park. Notice how the pool is a beaver dam, and each spout has the name of a different river. Does anyone know if this is based on something in the real New York, current or historical?
The very impressive exterior of the DisneySea version of Tower of Terror. I didn’t go on this because I can’t handle drop rides, but I know the theming is supposed to be amazing.
We headed back to the hotel after watching the big show on the water. The show was very cool, but I still prefer the fireworks shows at Disneyland and -World, and the Disneyland version of Fantasmic (I haven’t actually seen it since 2013 though).
Finally one of the things I had been looking forward to the most about going to Tokyo Disney Resort was riding in these monorail cars.
Stay tuned for more Disney park posts!
