Privacy policy

Your e-mail address, postal address, or any other personal information that you specify on this site will never be used for anything other than that specific purpose, nor will it be shared with a third party.

Most contact information you specify is stored (on your own computer, through cookies) so that it can automatically be filled in on other parts of the site or on return visits.

If you join the mailing list, you can leave at any time through a link present in every announcement, or by contacting us.

Shortcuts

These are some navigational features that might not be obvious:

• The site logo on any page is a link to the main page of the gallery. The site logo on the main page is a link to the johannaost.com index page.
• The left and right arrow keyboard keys take you to the previous or the next gallery item or category subpage, if the browser window has focus.

All the site URLs are intended to be mnemonic. As if that wasn't enough, some URLs have short forms:

• http://www.johannaost.com/?name finds all gallery items with "name" in the title. If only one item is found, you will be directed right to it.
• http://www.johannaost.com/100 returns the gallery item with id 100.
• http://www.johannaost.com/? returns a random gallery item.

Statistics

Since 6/5 2003, the entry page of this site has counted 227 043 hits (119 a day), and 171 214 unique visitors (90 a day).

The gallery contains 467 paintings and drawings, 95 scrapbook items and 30 sculptures. In the last 90 days, a new item has been added every 10.00 days on average. The original images take up a total of 86 megabytes, whereas all variations in the image cache amount to 969 megabytes.

36.35% of the gallery items are sold, 27.93% are for sale, and 35.72% are gifts or not available. The entire gallery (items for sale and sold) would sell for $42 767 USD, with an average item price of $113 USD.

Since 14/7 2003, the 592 gallery items have been served 4 419 966 times; that's 2 403.63 displays a day, or 4.06 per item daily.

The average age of a person signing the guestbook is 17.05. There are 379 subscribers to the mailing list. 14927 searches (1577 different queries) have been run.

Credits

This site was designed and coded by Henrik Nyh. Henrik maintains and updates the code and design, and makes the graphics (out of Johanna's art).

Johanna Öst adds art to the gallery database and handles orders. She also made the art for the site graphics. And all the gallery art, obviously. Except for some doodles by Henrik.

Among those who have helped with suggestions and tracking down bugs, Fredrik Bränström has been the busiest.

The site menu is ADxMenu by Aleksandar Vacic. The tiling background was made by monc and is used with permission.

Technology

This site is written in PHP4, over a MySQL database. The gallery images are watermarked, resized and sung to sleep by PHP's GD module, then gently cached. The nice-looking URLs depend on Apache's mod_rewrite module.

The site is hosted by Surpasshosting.

The gallery is managed through a custom-made, integrated content management system (CMS), screenshots of which are available below.
